I somehow seem to notice a lot more of Jahan's new habits over the weekend... Just noting some of Jahan's more recent developments on turning ten months:
He has cut both his bottom two first inscissors and now seems to want to bite everything in sight - tables, chairs, parents etc. He also inadvertently manages to bite parts of his own anatomy, much to his distress.
Jahan's obsession with exploring the world by experiencing it first-hand continues to grow. He now wants to climb into everything - toy boxes, clothes baskets, activity desks. It is not unusual to leave him playing with a box of toys and return to find he has emptied the box and climbed inside it instead.
N.B. I must note an observation I made about this. Jahan's powers of logic also seem to be developing well. I observed him attempting to climb into a small clothes basket, but everytime he put his weight on the rim it tipped over. So after sitting and contemplating it for a few seconds, Jahan reached over the rim, placed his weight on the floor of the basket to prevent it from tipping over, then skillfully swung his legs over the top of the rim and climbed inside.
Jahan's tendency for mimicry is also evolving to a point where I no longer feel he is mindlessly mirroring my words and actions, but that rather, he is consciously emulating them in an effort to achieve the same outcome. When I make a phone call, he picks up his toy receiver, presses the buttons and puts it to his head. When I sing "incey-wincey spider", "hickory-dickory dock" or "the grand old duke of york" he makes every effort to imitate my actions (at the moment, his versions of all three songs have identical actions, but we're working on that:).
And when it's time to read a story, he is now only wants to be read one which enables him to take part in the storytelling (we have a book about animals which allows Jahan to make the mooo and mee-ow sounds he loves to yell at the appropriate page).
The frustrating thing, however, is that I still can't seem to get Jahan interested in feeding himself his milk bottle, a cup of drink or even finger food with any success. He is more than happy to be fed and is still happier to go without milk that to feed himself!
