Sureka has said to me on several occasions how interesting she finds it that children of the same age, who are otherwise quite "normal" in their development, can develop so differently to each other. I am equally amazed at how differently one child can develop at various tasks himself.
Yesterday was a day of successes and disappointments. On the one hand, Jahan (who literally learnt to walk overnight), has taken to it so readily that I already find myself having to run to prevent him from grabbing something dangerous. (Who needs to diet when you have a toddler for exercise?) Needless to say, it is exciting that he can walk and it presents more fun opportunities to play outside etc. Besides, there is nothing cuter than a toothie-pegged toddler learning to walk, legs and arms wide apart, striding determinedly towards you. :-)
On the other hand, my project for the weekend - to teach Jahan to feed himself a bottle, drink from a cup and master the art of finger foods - failed miserably. We had juice all over the floor, milk bottles literally hurled across the room, and two huge vomits from finger foods absurdly stuffed into the mouth. Jahan is simply not interested in feeding himself - a task that many 6-month olds can achieve. Duncan and I were musing that when he is 18 he will probably still be getting his mates to hold his beer bottle for him. :-(
Posted by Dayan at June 28, 2004 11:59 AMNo probs. Jeyanth will hold his beer for him. As long as Jahan orders them!
