HOSPITAL VISIT

We have just returned after spending the best part of the day at the SAN hospital, where Jahan was admitted as an outpatient into Emergency Care this morning.

It began with a visit to the GP early this morning, after Jahan woke up screaming, wheezing and coughing up large amounts of mucus. The GP advised us that he had viral bronchialitis, would require hospitalisation, and should be taken immediately to Accident and Emergency at the SAN. Upon arriving there, Jahan was admitted, tested, poked, prodded, x-rayed, intubated nasally for mucus specimans and cajoled by staff. (All this interdispersed with very LARGE amounts of waiting time, but I'll have my beef about private casualty departments another time). The upshot was a confirmation that he did indeed have viral bronchitis, and required very large amounts of fluid and rest. However, although overnight admission was routine for children his age, the Emergency Physician advised: "...he'll be much happier at home, which is so much better than any treatment we can offer him here". So we're home now, with Jahan resting in his cot and Mum fretting about how to force-feed him fluids (did I mention that he has gone off food and drink?) Tomorrow we have a visit with the Paediatrician to see if he needs further hospital follow-up.
