Chris made an entry in Jeyanths Blog some time ago in praise of cheap toys. Jeyanth apparently loves playing with his plastic stacking cups more than any other toy. Well, Jahan can top that.
Ok, some kids have their teddies. Others have their favourite Thomas Train or racing car. Jahan has a plastic spoon. Any plastic spoon. If he's grumpy at home, a spatula or spoon will amuse him no end. A spoon can be a drumstick, a spade, a teething tool, a donger, a screwdriver, an extension tool (for reaching things beyond reach), and when it's time to play "cooking", it even doubles as a... spoon!
When we go shopping, Jahan insists upon being given a disposable spoon to hold, and will scream if he loses it or it is taken away. He will happily sit in his pram while I shop, as long as he's got his spoon. He often doesn't even suck it or play with it - he just subconsciously clutches it in one hand while observing the world.
As strange as his spoon fetish appears to me, I guess I should be grateful for its economy!
