Well Spring is sprung, and the grass is riz etc. And my son appears to be allergic to something in the air. Jahan is exhibiting something referred to as a "Wheel and Flare" response. I quote from The Allergy Report of American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology:
"The wheel and flare response, observed with a positive skin test in an allergic individual, is often compared to the reaction seen with mosquito bites. It begins with a pale central area surrounded by erythema (redness) and edema (swelling). This immediate type of allergic response reaches its peak at about fifteen minutes and usually will go away within thirty to ninety minutes."
The GP doesn't think there is anything to worry about because, without an accompanying temperature, nasal stuffiness or any other typical symptom of allergy or hayfever, the Wheel and Flare is harmless. Except that he gets big red welts on his beautiful face everytime he rubs something against it!
Duncan and I intend to do a bit more reading on this before we decide whether it warrants follow-up.

Posted by: Sureka at September 3, 2004 09:29 AMNo - he is completely oblivious to it! There's no itchiness or discomfort, just unsightly red welts!
