THE DOOR

This evening, Jahan and I returned home from the supermarket. I parked the car, took Jahan inside, put him and my handbag down, and went back outside to grab the groceries from the car. Next thing I hear is the front door bang shut. Jahan had pushed the door shut, and somehow, managed to lock it. With himself inside. Of course, I panicked. I tried the door desperately. I ran around the back hoping that I had accidentally left the back door or a window open. No luck. I came back around the front and banged on the door trying to coerce Jahan to unlock it. (Ok, you're not the most rational when you're panicking).

I ran to the neighbours and rattled off something which must have been unintelligible - but the next thing I knew, Jon and Denise, their kids, their friends Rob and Cath and their kids were running around our house looking for innovative ways to break in. I used Denise's phone to call Duncan's father, Rod, who was the only other person who had spare keys. Although it was 6pm and the traffic would have been hideous, Rod set off for our place immediately. But was Jahan going to remain compos mentis for another half hour??

Nope. He wanted me to open the door. He cried. He yelled. He screamed blue murder, stuck his fingers in his mouth and started to gag.

I told Jon I needed his help. There was a window around the back which was already cracked, so Jon wrapped a towel around his arm and tried to smash it in. No luck. So he took a brick and threw it through the window (while I managed to detain Jahan on the other side of the room by making faces through the front french doors). Jon climbed in, opened the door and I rescued Jahan (who by now was blue in the face from protesting at having been abandoned).

Less than a minute later, Rod arrived. **SIGH**

Such is life. Tomorrow, I'll be giving a spare set of keys to everyone I know.

Oh my word!! That's some adventure! Phew, glad you've got McGyver-types for neighbours. I must try and locate the spare set of keys that I hid in the garden at our place 3 years ago!
