I have said for months that I think Jahan is an outdoor baby by every definition of the term. Taking him outside cures just about all ills - be it playing with his toys on the deck, chasing balls in the backyard or chasing worms on the front lawn.
On Saturday morning, we held a garage sale along with the neighbours. The sale went for 5 hours, and Jahan was outside for almost the entire time. He frolicked in the lawn, buzzing around the other children, running up and down the neighbours' garden steps, crawling between the items for sale. Barely a peep.
And On Sunday, he hit the Jackpot. We took Jahan to Newport (in Sydney's northern beaches). We had lunch at the Newport Arms, where he happily sat outside with Mummy and Daddy and ate his fish and chips. Then he played in the special kids play area while Mum and Dad finished their drinks. Then, of course, it was off the the surf beach ( photos here). And what a lark it was! Jahan frolicked in the sand, dug holes, rolled around, made interesting patterns using shells and dried seaweed. And when we took him to the water's edge, he was thrilled. Splashing around in the water, beaming as it washed too and fro between his legs, he couldn't get enough.
Extracting him was difficult... but we left with a definite compulsion to return to the beach at the first available opportunity.
I've never been an outdoor person - much less a beachy one. I think all that is about to change. :)
