Christmas this year has been significantly Jahan-centric. He woke up on Christmas morning reciting "Santa comin'! Santa comin'!" and singing "ra-pa-pum-pum" in his cot. Of course when we made our way downstairs, he was not particularly interested in opening the Christmas presents, so we sat down together and read the story about Jesus being born in Bethlehem. Then Jahan got to open the nine presents that Santa had brought him.
(Aside: ok, this is where I must confess to not yet having a stance about Santa. I don't want to be a Santa nazi - I don't want Jahan to grow up wierd and maladjusted - but I do want him to learn about Jesus' birthday before he learns about Santa. Fortunately this year he is yet to really understand either.)
Then it was off to Christmas lunch up the coast at Aunty Jenny's where Jahan acquired another huge stash of presents, splashed in the bird bath and played with his cousins. And in the evening it was off to Grandma's for Christmas dinner.
But the nicest thing about the Christmas break has been the amount of quality time Duncan, Jahan and I have had to spend together. Despite the whirlwind of activity, the lack of sleep, the insane quantities of food consumed, the ridiculous expenditure on gifts, the unending social engagements - at least we've been together - and that has made Christmas wonderfully special this year.
