Jahan is 18 months old today. For those who might be interested, here is a summary of things he's doing these days.
Gross Motor - Jahan is a veritable Sporty Spice. He bounces and jumps around the house (with both feet off the ground), runs constantly and climbs everything in sight (he can now climb up and down a full flight of stairs without assistance). He is extremely energetic, and much prefers running around outdoors than sitting inside playing. Which brings me to...
Fine Motor - Compared to his general sportiness, Jahan struggles with activities requiring finer motor skills. It's probably not that Jahan can't achieve great feats of engineering - it's probably more that he couldn't be bothered. Jahan simply doesn't have the patience to sit and build Lego towers, put square pegs in square holes or do other puzzles. When the right block doesn't go into the slot the first time, he immediately loses interest and decides to climb the bookcase instead. Which is great if he wants to grow up to be a rugby player, but not so great if he wants to learn to... say... write. :-(
Language - Jahan has an advanced and extensive vocabulary for his age. He can now easily string several words together to make up phrases, questions and even full sentences. Eg "What you doing, Mummy?", "Jahan going to Gwamma's house!" and "I don't like it! Want st'waberries!". He sings songs (now with a clear melody), counts to 12 and sporadically to 20, says several rhymes, and sings the alphabet with some (considerable) assistance.
Meals and routine - Jahan eats most things now - not much of anything but a little of everything. He has a sweet tooth and prefers fresh fruit to any other item of food. He still has three large bottles of milk a day, on pain of death. He sleeps through the night (7.30 or 8 pm to 6.30 am) and has a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. He has had 7 teeth for the past 6 months, and doesn't appear to have any intention of growing the rest.
Social Skills - Although Jahan has significantly come out of his shell in the last few months, he still throws the occasional tantrum when faced with unfamiliar minders. He loves being at Day Care, but hates being at Church Creche. When his security is not threatened (ie. Mum or Dad is around), Jahan will interact quite happily with guests.
