BREATHING EASY

Last night, Jahan had his first apparently unprovoked attack of asthma. Man, was it scary...
He woke up screaming in the middle of the night - coughing and spluttering, inconsolable by milk or cuddles, gasping for breath. At first, it was difficult to tell whether he was gasping because he'd been crying so much - or whether he was crying because he had tummy pains or other discomfort. But when Duncan put him down on the ground to listen to his chest with the stethoscope, Jahan couldn't even stand up. We immediately whipped out the ventolin spacer, and despite much resistance, forced several puffs into our son. After about 20 minutes of panicking and flapping about (we were determined to handle this situation as two intelligent, well-equipped parents of an asthmatic child), Jahan calmed down, sat quietly and listened to stories of Little Miss Muffet and Simple Simon. Then, he had some milk, had a nappy change, said "Goodnight Daddy" and went back to sleep.
Not sure Daddy or Mummy slept all that well, though. Guess you just learn to cope.

Omigosh! You poor things. That sounds truly terrifying. I guess at least you had a ventolin thingy, and knew he was asthmatic etc. Do you have any idea what triggered it? I guess these things are pretty random right?
Give him a big cuddle from us.
